Resilience: Improving Psychological Health and Emotional Well-being

"The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."

Nelson Mandela

This quote encapsulates the spirit of resilience perfectly.  It is entirely normal to experience challenges in our lives -  however, how we respond to these challenges is absolutely key to our identity, our psychological well-being  and even our physical health.

The school environment provides the ideal place for children and young people to explore different ways of coping with challenges and to develop positive strategies that will be with them throughout their lifetime.

Over recent years some positive psychology strategies such as the growth mindset and mindfulness have become more well know within the school environment. However, sometimes these theories can be taken in isolation or as a result of a single training course, and not joined within the rich and detailed framework of knowledge that underpins the theory.  Our Positive Focus Training aims to redress this by providing this knowledge as a whole school approach in order to promote consistency and knowledge within schools and other organisations working with young people.

The aim of this training is to provide clear information to promote psychological health and emotional well-being in young people and those who work with them.  In broad terms, this is widely understood as building resilience.

By linking evidence based theories and expert peer reviewed advice, we provide high impact, practical and easily accessible information that can be used daily through working practice.

Based on clinical evidence and the principles of CBT, we have developed an integrative model explaining the contributing factors of psychological health and emotional well-being.  This training will help you to develop coping strategies in children through consolidating and linking understanding of the brain and applied neuroscience, positive psychology, communication and emotional intelligence.

Presenters: Dr Anwen Whitham and Lisa Jones -  please see below for more information.

Lisa and Anwen are trained in different talking therapies and have years of experience in working with clinical presentations.  They collaborated together and created Positive Focus Training because they believe that through education, understanding, and the teaching of ‘simple’ strategies at school, it is possible to promote well-being and resilience and in turn help children and young people to achieve their potential and reduce the potential for mental health challenges in the future.
